Her name was Nil and he was one of the temple dogs. Her full name was Nil-Mani. Mani means jewel and Nil means dark, black. She came to the monastery with her sister whose name was Dot com. So, she was Nil-mani.com.
Dot com was a cute short-legged dog, white with black dots all over her body. After Dot Com died last year, Nil was the only dog left. She had lived the longest in our temple and passed away when she was 18 years old. She died on October 26 after a good long life. When she died, one of the bhikkhunis wrapped her in a towel and Ven. Dhammananda pointed to the spot where to bury her. We bury all of our dogs in on own temple ground and Ven. Mother (Dhammananda) always conducts both the preparation as well as the ceremony. Goodbye sweet Nil, have a safe journey.
We have witnessed more than 10 burials of our dogs.
